Founded in Venice in 1934, Rene Caovilla is regarded as having set the benchmark for excellence in the luxury footwear sector. Edoardo, father of René, opened a workshop to handcraft luxury shoes in Fiesso d’Artico, near Venice. In the 50s it was his son René who took the helm of the company. After studying in Paris and London, he took on right away the role of the captain of industry, being the architect of the brand’s establishment. Today the brand has entered its third generation with Edoardo – the current COO and creative director, looking to contemporary times and the future without forgetting the past, keeping faithful to two three constant principles: passion, creativity, excellence. René liked to repeat often to enhance the added value of high craftsmanship and expert manual skills, still today a signature feature of the house. Without forgetting the possibility to interpret every new idea in total freedom. And precisely in this scenario, in 1960s, René Caovilla conceived, designed and created the iconic pieces of the line, the same ones that, updated and revisited, are still today the emblem of an intriguing and sophisticated femininity: the “Snake” sandals, now the trademark of the label, the fabric boots worn as socks, and the thong sandals embellished with pearls. Rows and rows of dazzling sandals and pumps, sneakers and espadrilles, all showered with embellishments in a kaleidoscopic palette, are now ready for packing. The iconic Caovilla shoe box itself speaks for perfection- in majestic Rouge decorated with Golden motifs, as luxurious as to the content inside. In 2001, René Fernando Caovilla, son of Edoardo, was appointed to the honorific title of “Cavaliere del lavoro” by the Italian Order of Merit for Labour, as a mark of respect for his achievements in the Italian fashion world and economic contributions to the country.
